Iloilo City to join UN climate confab in Austria


ILOILO CITY – Mayor Jerry Treñas will represent the Iloilo City government in the upcoming United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) climate forum in Austria in September.

“This is an opportunity to promote the city’s best practices as well as the metro’s potentials in the global platform,” said Treñas.

Among the best practices to be presented are the rehabilitation of the Iloilo River and the creation of the linear river park known as the Iloilo Esplanade.

These projects which started during the term of Jed Mabilog and pushed by former Ilonggo Sen. Franklin Drilon seek sustainable river management.

The mayor will also present the renovation of  public plazas for more inclusive and green open spaces for citizenry; watershed management initiatives in collaboration with Metro Iloilo Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC); water supply conservation; various waste management programs; solar energy advocacy with private sector partners such as malls, universities, and hospitals;  and promotion of biking and eco-friendly transport.
