De-radicalization seminar for 50 former NPA rebels in Agusan del Norte held
NASIPIT, Agusan del Norte – The command group and regional staff of Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) spearheaded the conduct of a two-day deradicalization seminar for former communist-New People’s Army (NPA) rebels.
The seminar, which started on Thursday, May 18, tackled the peace and development program of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. at Triangolo Gym here at Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.
“This seminar is also part of the mainstreaming process for surrenderers,” stressed PRO 13 Regional Director P/Brig. Gen. Pablo G. Labra ll.
Some of the participants came from the communist-NPA Weakened Guerilla Front 16, Dismantled Guerilla Front 4-A, and Dismantled Guerilla Front 88.
The activity covered topics such as psychosocial mental health, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and countering terrorism and Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) infiltration into different sectors.
“Participants were also taught about their roles in peace-building efforts and how to improve their livelihoods in peaceful communities,” said Brig. Gen. Labra.
The region’s top police official, who graced the occasion and served as the keynote speaker, thanked the partners and stakeholders for responding to the needs of the former rebels.
Brig. Gen. Labra was elated by the decision of former rebels to return to the government's fold and assured them they would receive due benefits from the government.
“Your decision to surrender will benefit you and your family,” said Labra.
“We welcome you with a happy heart and thank you for answering our call to leave the armed struggle and embrace the path towards peace,” added Labra.
Also in attendance during the activity were P/Col. Harry B. Domingo, Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) commander; P/Lt. Col. Romeo A. Villabos, Jr. of Regional Intelligence Division 13; Nasipit town Vice-Mayor Leonardo C. Beniga, and Ms. Ivy C Arbas, Admin Assistant III of TESDA.
