Singer-actor Matt Lozano's career is on a roll. Aside from playing Big Bert Armstrong, one of the lead characters in Voltes V: Legacy series, he is also set to launch his new single on May 19 under GMA Music. It is entitled "Liham" - an inspiring song about moving on from sadness.

Matt knows whereof he speaks. A few years ago, he was battling depression. He also had body positivity issues. Little did he know that his struggle with his weight would be a blessing in disguise as his size actually clinched for him the role of Big Bert.

But even Matt would say bagging the character of Big Bert didn't come easy.

"Nag-audition ako. Pumila ako sa napakahabang pila for Big Bert. Then two weeks after audition, tumawag sila sa akin. Umiyak kaming dalawa ng mama ko. Alam nyang pangarap ko ito," the 29-year old Matt revealed.

(I auditioned. I joined a very long queue to audition for the role of Big Bert. Two weeks after, they called me to say that I passed. I cried with my mama. She knows that this is my dream role).

Matt took his role seriously and even learned martial arts (arnis). Director Mark Reyes also made the cast watch all the episodes of the original  Japanese anime series.

Here are 10 things to know about Matt, the fast-rising Kapuso multi-talented star

1. Showbiz runs in the family. Matt's mother, Elaine, is a seasoned producer while his dad, Marlon, used to be an actor and production manager.

2. Matt started in the industry very young as a child actor. As a teenager, he played bit roles in box office hits like " My Best Friend's Girlfriend" and "When I Met You." His filmography also includes several indie movies.

3. As a singer, he first showed his prowess in Eat Bulaga where he first won a singing competition in 2016. This was the " Spogify featuring The Singing BAEs" contest.

4. His most memorable experience in "Voltes V: Legacy" was entering the Camp Big Falcon set for the first time. " It brought me back to my childhood. The camp left us in awe. It  just looked amazing ," Matt said.

5. Matt considers his fellow Voltes V cast members as family now. Their camaraderie just translates on screen. He bared:  " I did not find it hard to work with the cast. They gave me the vibe that I was instantly welcome. They were willing to help me in all of my scenes. Miguel (Tanfelix) is considered the leader of our group."

6. He recounted that he almost fainted in his opening scene as Big Bert. " It took almost four hours to shoot but thankfully, it turned out to be very good," Matt said.

7. Matt will sing the closing theme song of the Voltes V series entitled "Chichi wo Motomete." This was originally sung by the late king of anime songs Ichiro Mizuki.

8. Matt noted that he has many similarities with Big Bert. Said he: "They share a common love for food and are both family-oriented. Big Bert has also learned to love himself, including his body proportions. How you accept yourself is how you can also learn to love others."

9. After being immersed in a fantasy series, Matt would like to try other film genres like comedy, horror and drama.

10. Matt would like to work with  Dingdong Dantes because he considers the top actor to be very passionate in his craft. " I would like to see how it is to work with Dingdong in person, I think he would be a really cool actor to work with."
