Adidas has unveiled the Philippine women’s football team’s official kits for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup happening this July on Tuesday, May 16, at the BGC Ampitheater in Taguig City.

The athletic apparel and footwear giant came out with three uniforms inspired by the Philippine flag: the blue kit or “bughaw” which represents “Sipag at Tiyaga” will be the home jerseys, the red kit or pula that signifies “Alab ng Puso” are the alternate ones, and the white kit that signals “Ang Bagong Yugto” will be the away gears of the Filipinas.

The yellow and orange kits then will be worn by the women’s team’s goalkeepers Inna Palacios and Olivia McDaniel.

“It’s exciting. I think it’s great for football in the Philippines,” said Adidas Philippines general manager Anthony Frangos.

Adidas and the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) signed a contract in February and have since then designed more Filipinas-themed merchandise for the fans which are being sold at the stores starting Tuesday.

The uniform kits, however, will be released on June 12, Independence Day, on a reservation basis first, with price point being consistent with the other kits sold at the store.

The brand is also eyeing worldwide shipment of the kits to drum up support for the Filipinas leading to the World Cup.

“To be able to turn around three designs in consultation process with the PFF, ensuring we get FIFA to sign on the approval for the kit to be worn in competition, it's a lengthy process. So to turn this around in a matter of three months is phenomenal to everyone involved," Frangos added.

The Filipinas have been wearing adidas jerseys since the Pinatar Cup in February, the Olympic qualifiers in April and in the recently concluded 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.

McDaniel, who actually wore the keeper jersey in the SEA Games, said the uniform is form-fitting and easy to play in.

After their bronze medal finish in the Vietnam edition, the Philippines, though, fell short of qualifying for the semifinals of this year’s biennial meet due to an inferior goal differential.

The Filipinas finished with a 2-1 slate in the pool play highlighted by a victory against eventual four-time champion Vietnam but couldn’t eclipse their previous best record.
