The Philippine National Police (PNP) has released over P7.5 billion to pay for the mid-year bonus of all its 227,832 active duty personnel.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. said the middy-year bonus for all PNP personnel will be available at the ATM on Thursday, May 18, and equivalent to a one-month basic salary.
"The mid-year bonus serves as a testament to our commitment to our personnel's welfare. It is an acknowledgment of their dedication and sacrifices, especially during challenging times. We hope that this bonus will provide them with additional support and encourage them to continue their noble service to our nation,” said Acorda.
The mid-year bonus is a legislated provision in the annual General Appropriations Act that serves as an additional form of compensation for qualified personnel.
The allocated funds, a total of P7,544,095,221.00, are derived from the regular PNP appropriations included in this year's budget.
Police Brig. Gen. Bowenn Joey M Masauding, director of the PNP Finance Service, said the mid-year bonus is governed by the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law and BIR Regulations 11-2018, which states that bonuses exceeding P90,000.00 is subject to tax deductions.
“As a disciplinary policy, payment of mid-year and year-end bonuses is deferred for personnel with pending case and serving punishment,” said Masauding.
