OFW dies after falling from Hong Kong flat while cleaning window

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) died after falling from a window she was  cleaning, according to the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong on Tuesday, May 16.

"Isa po itong kalunos lunos na trahedya at kami po ay nakikiramay sa pamilya ng ating kababayan, at makakaasa po sila ng mga pagtulong ng ating gobyerno mula trahedyang ito (This is a terrible tragedy and we sympathize with the family of our compatriot, and they can count on the help of our government),” said Consul General Raly Tejada in a video released.

The consulate also assured it is coordinating with the Hong Kong government to find a solution and to conduct an investigation.

Meanwhile, OFWs in Hong Kong were reminded to refrain from cleaning windows on higher floors to avoid similar accidents.

In a separate public advisory, the consulate said domestic helpers in Hong Kong are allowed to clean windows on higher floors if they are adjacent to a balcony or common corridor.

The window being cleaned should be equipped with a grille that is securely locked or fastened, ensuring it cannot be opened, it stated.

Additionally, the advisory noted that during the cleaning process, the helper's body should not extend beyond the window ledge, except for their arms.
