Navotas LGU grants scholarship to 108 student athletes
The Navotas City government has granted scholarship to 108 elementary and high-school student athletes to help them as they participate in different sports competitions.
Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco signed on Monday, May 15, a memorandum of agreement on the NavotaAs Athletic Scholarship Program at the Navotas City Hall Grounds, along with the student athletes and their parents/guardians.
“We believe that the Navoteño youth are all achievers. We just need to focus on their individual strengths, talents,and skills to help them reach the top,” Tiangco said.
“We want to hone the talents and skills of our young athletes so they can continue to excel in their respective sports and represent the city in competitions,” he added.

Among the beneficiaries were 36 Navotas Division Palaro champions in athletics, 24 in taekwondo, 16 in badminton, and 13 in swimming, the local government said.; four gold table tennis players; six in chess; and nine in arnis. They will receive P16,500 transportation and food allowance and P1,500 for their uniform and equipment every scholarship term, according to the city government. The athletic scholars will also get free training from coaches hired by the city government and receive help when they participate in private competitions. The city government said the scholarship may be renewed annually provided the student athlete wins at least third place or its equivalent in any regional or national sports competitions; attends all necessary and scheduled trainings; and maintains good school grades. The NavotaAs Scholarship Program has been able to support the education of over 1,000 learners and teachers since it was established in 2011. Aside from the program, the local government also offers scholarships to students who exhibit outstanding academic performance and artistic talent, and to children or relatives of the Top Ten Most Outstanding Fisherfolk.
