Grab Philippines said it was surprised by the decision of the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) to impose a new penalty on the remaining refund for its customers and is evaluating its legal options on the fine. "We are surprised at PCC's decision to fine us - given that we've been proactively engaging with them for over a year with proposals for alternative mechanisms to disburse the remaining administrative fees," Grab Philippines said in a statement. As they have been forthcoming in explaining its legal position, and challenges to the PCC, aside from being proactive in proposing alternative disbursement mechanisms, Grab said "We will be evaluating our legal options regarding the P9 M fine.” Grab PH said it has always been 100 percent committed to fully depleting the unclaimed admin fees, and have made every effort to to do so. Thus, it proposed alternative disbursement mechanisms. That is why, it was surprised when the anti-trust body made a decision in February 2023 "without informing them". given that that ride hailing app has been regularly following up with them, the statement added. Nonetheless, the company said it was glad that the PCC has finally come to a decision on the disbursement mechanism for the remaining administrative fees to put this matter to rest. 'We will implement the order of the PCC for Alternative Refund Mechanism as required by the PCC Order," the statement added.
