Widow shot dead in Quezon


BUENAVISTA, Quezon – A 71-year-old widow was shot dead in Sitio Catmon, Barangay San Diego, here, police reported on Sunday, May 14.

Police identified the victim as Carmelita Monterey.

The victim’s son Felix reported the incident to the police after his sister found the body of their mother in a comfort room at the compound of their house.

Felix told police that he was in his house 50 meters away from his mother’s place and heard a gunshot.

His sister had just arrived from Tayabas City when she found their matriarch.

Carmelita sustained a bullet wound in the right shoulder.

Police recovered from the crime scene a spent shell of a 12-gauge shotgun.

An investigation and follow-up operation are being conducted by the police.

Meanwhile, in Tayabas City, Quezon, police led by Police Lt. Col. Bonna Obmerga offered broom sticks or “walis tingting” for  mothers during a visit to Catholic churches on Mother’s Day.

Obmerga said that the walis tingting represents the mother’s traits of unity, prudence, and diligence.

Police distributed some 300 broomsticks and reminded the people that they are just nearby to protect and secure them from lawbreakers.
