The Philippines remained to be the strongest in the region for the third straight edition of the biennial meet.
The Sibol MLBB men's completed a three-peat in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games after sweeping Malaysia, 3-0, in the finals at the Nagaworld 2 in Phnom Penh on Sunday, May 14.
Sibol, composed of the core players of the Bren Esports Angelo "Pheww" Arcangel, Michael "Kyle" Sayson, Charles "Flaptzy" Canon, Rowgien "Owgwen" Unigo and Marco "Super Marco" Requitano, and Onic Philippines Nowee "Ryota" Macasa dominated and exacted its revenge against Malaysia which defeated the Filipinos in the group stage. It was the country's third gold in the event ever since esports was first introduced in 2019. A selection team mostly composed of the M2 winning Bren Esports squad first won the gold before a Sibol team powered by M3 world champion Blacklist International ruled the tiff last year. The Filipinos started out strong in the series, drawing the first blood with a 19-11 Game 1 win. A back-and- forth affair turned to Sibol's favor after a 25-minute Lord dance where the Filipinos took out three Malaysian players before going for the base push. Riding the momentum of the Game 1 win, Sibol went on to dominate Malaysia for a wire-to-wire 16-7 win in the second game. The effective zoning and backline dive of Canon on the Arlott pick created opportunities for Sibol during the team fights. Sibol showed no let-up in the gold-clinching Game 3 with Sayson on the jungle Helcurt and Requitano on the gold lane Harith took turns in punishing Malaysian players during objective fights Requitano and Sayson both finished with pristine lines of 6-0-7 and 7-0-5 KDAs to lead Sibol's 21-6 triumph in Game 3
