Expect rains in southern Mindanao due to ITCZ — PAGASA

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), a weather system where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, may cause rains in southern Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, May 14. However, the rest of the country will continue to have hot and humid weather with possible isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening. PAGASA advised the public to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, as these may trigger landslides or flash floods, especially in areas that are vulnerable to these hazards. Meanwhile, weather specialist Obet Badrina said there is still a low chance of tropical cyclone formation within the country’s area of responsibility this week. In addition, no gale warning is currently raised over any of the country’s seaboards, as the coastal waters will be light to moderate throughout the archipelago. PAGASA said small boats and other sea vessels are safe to sail.
