R1AA opens in Pangasinan on Sunday with 5,900 competing student-athletes
SAN CARLOS City, Pangasinan – The Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet opens on Sunday, May 14, at the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) here with 5,900 student-athletes from public and private schools from the Ilocos region competing.
This regional sports event is hosted by the Department of Education-Schools Division Office (SDO) of San Carlos City and the city government of San Carlos led by Mayor Julier C. Resuello and supported by the provincial government of Pangasinan.
Playing venues have been prepared and ready to accommodate competing teams representing the 14 SDOs across Region 1.
These are Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union, Alaminos City, Batac City, Candon City, Dagupan City, Laoag City, San Carlos City, San Fernando City, Urdaneta City, Vigan City, Pangasinan I, and Pangasinan II.
Elementary learners are competing in 19 regular sports events while secondary learners are vying in 25 regular sports events.
Two demonstration events, dance sports and pencak silat, will also held, along with the five Para Games for learners with disability.
All 25 billeting schools here are ready to house the 5,901 learner-athletes and 3,468 coaches, chaperones, and delegation officials.
