P525,000 smuggled cigarettes seized in Zamboanga City


ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga City Police Station 6 led by Police Col. Sonny Boy Perez intercepted an abandoned van containing P525,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes on Saturday, May 13, while conducting hot pursuit operations against a suspect in a shooting incident here.

Police Col. Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City police director, said the abandoned vehicle was intercepted on the Maria Clara Lobregat Highway.

The van, loaded with 15 boxes of smuggled cigarettes, was registered under the name of a certain Midzpar H. Mohammad of Zamboanga City.

The van was brought to Police Station 6 prior to its turnover to the Bureau of Customs Zamboanga port.

Perez and his men were conducting pursuit operations against a man who allegedly shot an American national when they found the van.
