Filipino-Chinese skin expert Olivia Quido-Co, CEO and founder of O Skin Spa based in the US, is in town as one of the special guests at the grand coronation of the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 on Saturday, May 13. "I will not judge the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 finals. I was invited by Jonas Gaffud for the grand coronation of Miss Universe Philippines," said Olivia, during an interview with the entertainment press at the Luxent Hotel in Quezon City recently. Olivia said she was grateful and excited to be part of the all-female judges in the Miss Universe Competition in New Orleans, Louisiana last Jan. 14 (Jan. 15 in Manila). Filipino-American fashion designer R'Bonney Grabriel of the USA was crowned 2022 Miss Universe. "I am grateful for that. As a judge, you have the power to change for the better one of the lives of these girls," she said. But Filipino pageant fans were surprised when Miss Philippines Celeste Cortesi missed the semifinals during the contest. For the first time, Olivia opened up about the Philippines missing the semis after 12 years.
I asked one of the Miss Universe officials why? "And then nanonood na ako, may kanya-kanya silang bitbit na Philippine flag. Nalungkot talaga sila. After a few seconds, napalitan ng American flag ang Filipino flag. Now they were rooting for R'Bonney. May reserve silang flag," Olivia said. Olivia also believed that she was a fair judge during the finals. "I was a fair judge naman at makikita mo ang mga Pinoy na talagang pageant fans. Iba talaga ang support nila." When asked what winning qualities MUO looks for, Olivia said: "Noong nag-uusap na kaming mga judge, closed-door ito, sinabi nila na they are looking for someone who will represent the brand very well." "Ibig sabihin nun, dapat may advocacy. Maganda yung ginagawa na nila yung charity even before they joined. "So hindi lang dapat beauty. Dapat relatable yung babae. Ano ba ang maitutulong nito sa community? Paano ba niya mae-empower ang mga kakabaihan? Kailangan witty, and smart, presentable sa stage. Dapat they own the stage. Dapat may stage presence.
