ZAMBOANGA CITY – An American was shot and wounded during an altercation with a drinking buddy here on Saturday, May 13.
Police Col. Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City police director, identified the victim as Aldo Berardi III, 50, single.
Berardi was allegedly shot by Arnel Miranda Kalugdan who later surrendered to Police Major Sonny Boy Perez, Zamboanga City Police Station 6 commander.
Investigation showed that Berardi was drinking liquor with Kalugdan when the duo engaged in a heated argument.
At the height of their discussion, Berardi mauled Kalugdan, prompting the suspect to get his firearm and shoot the victim.
Berardi was rushed to the hospital while Kalugdan escaped and later surrendered to police.
In an interview, Sheryne, the suspect’s wife, said the American had been staying at her husband's house in Barangay Talon-Talon for the past six months.
Police are investigating personal grudge as a possible motive for the crime.
