CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Five New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the police on Friday, May 12, in Barangay Bilaran, Nasugbu, Batangas.
Police Regional Office 4-A chief Police Brig. Gen. Carlito Gaces, quoting a report from the 2nd Batangas Provincial Mobile Force Company, identified the surrenderers as Albert Atienza, 31, a member of the Eduardo Dagli Command Group, a combat support group element of the Sub-Regional Military Area 4-C of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC)-Communist Party of the Philippine-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF), and Bryan Enriquez, 37; Enrico Mercado, 52; Fernando Aienza, 47, and Fermin Endozo, Militia ng Bayan members from the Samahan ng Mandaragat sa Barangay Hukay Inc. (SMBHI) and all Non-Periodic Status Report Listed (NPSRL).
Fernando was a former vice president of the SMBHI prior to his surrender.
Albert surrendered a Smith and Wesson caliber .38 revolver without serial number with six bullets while the four SMBHI members turned over two 40mm grenade, eight detonating cords, one blasting cap, ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) used to make improvised explosive devices, a black container, and wires.
They are now undergoing custodial debriefing by the 2nd Batangas Provincial Mobile Force Company prior to processing and documentation as well as facilitation of their application in the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) for rebel returnees.
