To our mothers

IT'S THE SMALL THINGS

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. A Sunday in May every year where we find an extra excuse to celebrate the most important women in our lives. Although a day will never be enough to give adequate thanks to some of the most influential figures in our lives, it is also that day which reminds us to be grateful to them and all that they are. After all, I would never want to think about a world without mothers – we would never know the feeling of being nurtured, nourished, cared for unbiasedly and loved unconditionally.
Mother’s love in a most different, special and unique way. Regardless of the character of your mother, and the manner in which you were brought up, it suffices to say that no one will ever love a child like their own mother. When we think about mothers however, let us not forget that the definition is an umbrella term not limited to biological mothers. The caregiver who helped raised us when our mother was busy at work, the aunt, the grandmother, the friend who lent a hand when our own mother was working abroad to give us a better future; the teacher in school who was so motherly she made a long and lasting impact on the person we have become – the list goes on. At the end of the day, we are grateful for the many mothers in our lives – the most influential of women figures who helped form us, and transform us into the people that we have become today.
I have yet to become a mother, but I do believe that the heart of a woman completely evolves and changes when she becomes one. It is a heart that transforms and multiplies a thousand fold to be able to love magnanimously, unconditionally and in an unparalleled manner. It is a heart that loves fiercely, that knows no bounds, and one that also hopes for her children to do the same and care for her too as the cycle of life progresses. And though not every woman is able to have children of her own, I am a firm believer that at some point in every woman’s life, she is blessed and is able to mother. Because as with everything else in life, God’s plan always prospers, and God always has his reasons.
I would like to end this by paying special tribute to everyone’s mother – at least those of us who believe in, and pray to her, Mama Mary. As the mother of Christ, she bore and gave this world the invaluable gift of bringing Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, into this world. And while we will never meet her in this lifetime, her presence in our lives is strongest, and most felt when our faith is being tested. Ultimately, at times when we need a mother the most, in praying to her, we are given strength, and often lead to find our answers. So on Mother’s Day, let us not forget to celebrate her as well, and her defining roles in the lives of those who believe in, and pray to her.
To all the Mothers out there – tomorrow is all about you. May you never forget how you change this world, and make it a better place every single day. Happy Mother’s Day!
