Overcast skies with scattered rain showers across PH next week — PAGASA
The country will be mostly cloudy with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the coming week due to the prevalence of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in its weekly weather outlook issued on Friday, May 12.
PAGASA said the oscillation of the ITCZ, a weather system where winds from the northern and hemispheres converge, will affect the country from May 12 to 19.
The entire country will continue to experience warm and humid weather with isolated rain showers or evening rain showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, May 12.
From Sunday, May 13 to Friday, May 19, PAGASA said the entire archipelago will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers.
It said that thunderstorms will become more frequent in the afternoon or evening due to the oscillation of the ITCZ.
According to PAGASA’s climate outlook for May, a gradual transition to the southwest monsoon season, or “habagat,” is expected, which may coincide with the start of the rainy season in Climate Type 1 areas between the second half of May and the first half of June.
Metro Manila and the western portions of Luzon and the Visayas fall under the Type 1 climate category.
These areas experience two distinct seasons: dry from November to April and rainy the rest of the year.
