VP Duterte to 'control' more confidential, intel funds as NTF-ELCAC vice chair, says Castro

Vice President Sara Duterte will get to "control" more confidential and intelligence funds in her new role as co-vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). Thus, claimed one of her consistent critics in the House of Representatives, ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro, on Thursday afternoon, May 11. Duterte is also the concurrent Department of Education (DepEd) secretary. "With her appointment as the co-vice chairperson of the [NTF-ELCAC] Vice President Sara Duterte could have discretion over more  confidential and intelligence funds aside from the Department  of Education and Office of the Vice President that she already controls," Castro, a House deputy minority leader, said. "As co-vice chair of the NTF-ELCAC and under the pretext of whole-of-nation approach and supposedly for peace and security, it is likely that she will have discretion on the confidenfial and intelligence funds of other agencies under the NTF-ELCAC," noted the militant Makabayan solon. Castro went on to slam such "whole-of-nation" tactic of the government as far as usage of public funds is concerned. "Yan ang problema sa NTF-ELCAC at whole-of-nation approach, magagamit talaga ang buwis ng taumbayan sa mga di magandang gawain na walang ideya ang mamamayan for what, how, when, who and where exactly (That's the problem with NTF-ELCAC and the whole-of-nation approach, public funds would end up being used for bad purposes that the public won't even know for what, how, when, who and where exactly)," she said. "Mamamalayan mo na lang mataas na ang incidences ng red-tagging (One day you'll realize that there's a high incidence of red-tagging) and all its companion human rights violations like extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearamces and harassment of critics," added Castro.
