The Sibol national team suffered a late collapse and yielded to Indonesia, 3-2, to settle for a silver medal in the women’s MLBB event in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at the Nagaworld 2 on Thursday, May 11.
The women’s team, composed of Smart Omega Empress players Mery Christine Vivero, Kaye Maerylle Alpuerto Rica Fatima Amores Sheen Perez, exp laner Gwen Diagon and reserve Alexandra Dardo, looked poise to win the crown after taking a 2-1 series lead in the finale. The team, however, squandered two match points, allowing its Indonesian rival to nab the gold medal. It was actually the Indonesians who drew the series first blood after a 12-6 victory in Game 1. The Filipinas, though, fired back with an 11-6 triumph with Vivero on the Natalia pick providing the map pressure against the Indonesians during the crucial objective fights. Sibol scored an 11-6 victory in Game 2. The Filipinas continued to roll in Game 3 with a massive 15-2 win behind a composition anchored on the Estes pick, easily enabling Alpuerto’s Martis to sustain the damage and complete a triple kill. That, however, was the last win Sibol could score as the Filipinas then struggled to contain Indonesia which steamrolled to a 14-4 triumph to drag the match to a decider. In the winner-take-all Sibol had the lead in the early game but Indonesia battled back behind the Xavier pick which provided the pokes on Sibol’s heroes and denied them the chance to contest on crucial objectives. So far, Sibol has copped a total of four medals, one gold, one silver and two bronzes.
