The House of Representatives held on Thursday, May 11 a necrological service for one of its beloved former members, the late Nueva Vizcaya Governor Carlos Padilla.

The necrological service, which began with a Requiem Mass, took place at the House plenary hall.

Among those who attended were former Speakers Jose de Venecia and Feliciano Belmonte Jr., Reps. Edcel Lagman and Eddie Villanueva, Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, and Senators Robinhood Padilla, Imee Marcos and JV Ejercito.

Deputy Speaker Camille Villar read the eulogy of House Speaker Martin Romualdez, who is currently in Indonesia for the 42nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) Summit.

“Personally, I have known honorable Carlos Padilla during the three consecutive terms that we have served together in the 14th, 15th and 16th congresses. I must say that it is truly an honor to have the opportunity to work and learn from a highly admired political leader and statesman, the 'Legend of The North'," Villar said, quoting Romualdez's eulogy.

"Honorable Padilla lived by the principles of service, compassion, generosity, and respect for self and others. His deeds are his monuments. We honor him best by striving to emulate these good deeds and embodying what public service genuinely means," the eulogy further read.

Padilla was a seven-term congressman, having represented the lone district of Nueva Vizcaya during the 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, and 16th Congresses. He is a former deputy speaker and minority leader in the House.

The Nueva Vizcaya governor passed away last May 5 at the age of 78.
