Lightning strike kills pregnant 14-year-old, 2 others in Iloilo


ILOILO CITY – A lightning strike killed three persons, including a 14-year-old pregnant girl, and injured nine others in Banate town, Iloilo province on Monday, May 8.

The two fatalities were identified as 48-year-old Rosalie Soberano and 38-year-old Mila Soberano.

The name of the minor victim was withheld.

They were taken to Gov. Niel D. Tupas District Hospital in Barotac Viejo town, Iloilo where they were declared dead.

Injured were 77-year-old Felomino Sadiang-ibon, 44-year-old Ivan Soberano, 42-year-old Jumar Soberano, 38-year-old Janelyn Igona, 30-year-old Larry Soberano, 20-year-old IJ Soberano, 20-year-old Sharime Soberano, a 14-year-old girl, and an 11-year-old boy.

The 14-year-old fatality was not a member of the Soberano family.

The group was out in the open field gathering “uling” or charcoal and decided to take shelter at the house of Sadiang-ibon due to a downpour.

Lightning suddenly struck the house, killing three and injuring nine of them.

Libertad is a boundary barangay of neighboring Anilao town.
