Health organization clarifies: We, pediatricians, are all advocates of vaccines
Vaccines save lives.
President of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) Southern Tagalog Chapter Dr. Maria Carolisa Pontanilla on Thursday, May 11, said they have been receiving reports that some doctors are advising their patients not to get vaccinated. To counter this, Pontanilla explained that all legitimate health professionals are advocates of vaccines.

“We, pediatricians, are all advocates of vaccines. We doctors, especially pediatricians, cannot tell our patients not to get vaccinated," said Pontanilla in a media conference on Thursday in a mix of English and Filipino. "Kami po ay all out sa pagpapa bakuna ng inyong mga anak at hindi manggagaling sa amin ang information na hindi ito pwedeng ibigay. Pabakunahan po natin ang mga anak para sa kanilang kaligtasan (We are all out when it comes to having children vaccinated. The information that your child cannot be given vaccines will not come from us. Let us vaccinate the children for their safety)," she furthered. This clarification came after the Department of Health (DOH) launched a nationwide supplemental immunization campaign against measles, rubella, and polio. This month-long campaign will run until May 31, 2023. Pontanilla, along with other members of PPS and the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines, declared their support for the inoculation drive, aiming to make sure that no child will be left unvaccinated and that every Filipino will have a healthier future.
