Kenneth Egano, the boxer who fell into a coma after winning his eighth-round fight in Imus, Cavite, passed away on Wednesday, May 10.
He was 22. The fallen bantamweight fighter succumbed to brain hemorrhage after four days in coma, his boxing stable, Amoy Boxing, confirmed. He had a 7-1 record throughout his short boxing career including the victory against Jason Facularin in what turned out to be his final fight after collapsing inside the ring while waiting for the official results. He was stretchered off the ring before being brought to the nearest hospital where he fought for his life in the next few days. The Games and Amusement Board as well as top promoters in the country mourned the passing of the once promising boxer from General Santos City. Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao whose boxing program Blow-By-Blow staged the Egano-Facularin match, had earlier promised to shoulder Egano’s medical expenses.
