The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has exceeded its collection target in the first four months of 2023 by P11 billion, attributing it to efficient law enforcement and gradual digitalization efforts.
Aside from law enforcement and digitalization, BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr. said the "historic accomplishments" could also be attributed to improved taxpayer's services and integrity and professionalism.
Lumagui said the BIR has generated almost P838 billion from January to April against the goal of P827 billion.
Revenue collection officers noted that it was the first time in decades that the agency did not only hit the target, but even reported surpluses.
Lumagui expressed that hat the BIR will meet its collection goal for 2023, provided that these programs receive due attention and improvement.
Fiscal authorities tasked the BIR to raise at least P2.6 trillion this year
