Valenzuela LGU turns over housing unit to PWD family
The Valenzuela City government turned over a fully-furnished housing unit to a family of persons with disabilities (PWD) in Disiplina Village Ugong on Tuesday, May 9.
Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian welcomed the family of Mr. Jonady Zapanta, 42, a PWD, who serves as the head of their household; his sister, Nelly Zapanta, 32 who suffers from Tetra-Amelia Syndrome (characterized by the absence of a person’s four limbs); and their niece, Marie Zapanta, who has hydrocephalus, to their new home in Barangay Ugong.
The local government said the family has sought financial assistance from the city since 2011 for their daily needs.

It added that despite his disability, Mr. Zapanta continues to work as a beautician in Barangay Dalandanan and earns only P4,000 per month. The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) intervened by providing daily supplies of diapers and milk in 2016, while a volunteer also helped in taking care of Mr. Zapanta’s sister. The housing unit with basic appliances such as television, refrigerator, gas stove and electric fan from the mayor, was given to the family after they were referred by the CSWDO to the local government to receive social services assistance. The city government said the family will continue to receive support through the CSWDO. Present during the turnover ceremony were City Councilor Niña Lopez, City Social Welfare and Development Office Head Ms. Dorothy Evangelista, Housing and Resettlement Office Head Ms. Elenita Reyes, and Barangay Ugong Chairman Ed Nazar and Council.
