Up by one in the opening set, 20-19, the Philippines was blindsided as Vietnam went on a finishing 6-0 run to claim the first set. The second set was no different as the Filipinas couldn’t sustain the momentum on their side once the Vietnamese pulled away for good midway through to take a commanding 2-0 set lead. Tied at 4-all in the third set after Mylene Paat’s service ace, the Philippines then committed five successive errors which gave Vietnam a comfortable 9-4 lead. The Philippines trailed by as much as nine at some point, which was already too much to overcome. Vietnam leads the pool play with a 2-0 slate, with the Philippines behind with a record of 1-1.
