BACOLOD CITY – A man who was reportedly under the influence of liquor died after he was hit by a car driven by a policeman in Barangay Awaan, Ayungon, Negros Oriental on Tuesday, May 9.

Police identified the fatality as Haide Jumuad of Barangay Awaan. Based on a police report, the car driver, Police Capt. Rexel Yosores, 40, of Tayasan town, Negros Oriental, was on his way to Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental when the victim allegedly suddenly crossed the road. The victim was taken to Bindoy District Hospital in Bindoy, Negros Oriental but was declared dead on arrival. Yosores, who is assigned at Police Station 9 in Cebu City, surrendered to the police. Police Lt. Col. Kym Lopez, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental police, said that he has yet to know if there's a settlement between the victim's family and the cop.
