Lucas also wrote a letter to fans, saying he is grateful for NCT and WayV members for the support and friendship.

In August 2021, Lucas suspended his activities and apologized after a woman who said she was his former girlfriend accused him of gaslighting and mooching off from her.

After the woman’s accusations surfaced, Lucas and SM Entertainment issued apologies.

"I sincerely would like to apologize to those hurt by my wrongdoings. If you give me a chance, I'd like to apologize to you in person. I also feel truly sorry to all my fans for this,” said Lucas.

He added, "For the past few days, I spent time reflecting on my past. My past actions were very wrong and irresponsible, and I shouldn't have done them if I had considered everyone who had given me so much love and support."

Back then, SM Entertainment said, “We apologize for causing concern over the personal life of our artist Lucas. Lucas is deeply reflecting on the fact that he has caused great pain and disappointment due to his own wrong actions, and we also feel responsible for poor management of the artist. Once again, we deeply apologize for causing concern to many people, including fans, with Lucas' personal issue.”

Last February, Lee Sung-soo, CEO of SM Entertainment, posted two photos of him together with Lucas on Instagram.

On the same day, Lucas posted a video on his Instagram account showing him dancing in a practice room.

The posts heightened speculations that Lucas would be making his comeback after more than a year since the controversy.

Here is SM Entertainment’s announcement on May 10:

“We have an announcement to share with you regarding LUCAS’ future plans

“After our deliberate discussion LUCAS, we made a mutual decision to part ways with the group NCT and WavV to pursue hic individual endeavors

“We ask for your understanding and continuous support as this was a decision taken after much consideration of both the members and all the fans who have supported.

“LUCAS is planning on showing his performances through a whole variety of individual works from now on.

“Once again, we sincerely appreciate lavished love and support from all the fans and ask for your continuous support and interest in the future.”

Here is Lucas’ letter posted on May 10:

“Hello everyone, I am Lucas / Huang Xuxi.

“Today I have something I want to tell you personally.

“After a long time of consideration, I decided to quit NCT and WayV. I'm really sorry for the members, and I can't bear to part with this friendship that has been going on for so many years.

“I have known and gotten along with the members for almost 8 years, and I am really grateful to them for taking care of me all the time, and I will never forget this feeling.

“I hope that in the memory of the members, I am Huang Xuxi, not just as Lucas. I really love the members and will always support them.

“I thought about it for a long time before deciding to quit, but in the end I think this decision is for everyone's best.

“In the future, in order to wait for my fans, I will work up the courage to meet you through solo activities.

“I feel like constantly showing a better side is the best way to really repay the fans who support me.

“In the days to come, I will work hard to become a more mature Huang Xuxi and a better Lucas.

“Finally, I would like to sincerely thank my fans and everyone who have supported me all the time, thank you so much.”
