The project which is in line with the “Build, Build, More” project of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is to ensure the safety of residents and their properties from flooding brought by dangerous tides and turbulent waves.

In his progress report on Wednesday, May 10, to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH-13 (Northeastern Mindanao or Caraga) Director Engr. Pol M. delos Santos said the 181.6-lineal meter concrete seawall constructed with concrete slope protection, grouted riprap, and structural steel sheet piles is an eagerly anticipated project for the locals who frequently experience anxiety and worry during bad weather conditions.

Delos Santos further said that the seawall project aims to prevent coastal erosion with the higher slope protection and safeguard the shoreline when big waves hit and protect vulnerable structures to be washed away.

“It is a long-awaited project as raging flood waters forced our locals living along coastal barangays to leave and reside in a safer place,” he said. “With this project, they are now better protected and their safety is ensured,” Delos Santos added.

With an allocation of P15.3 million, the project was implemented by DPWH Surigao del Sur 1st District Engineering Office.
