A three-day Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) anchored on “Youth Today, Tomorrow, and the Future” and in partnership with the Philippine Army 29th Infantry (Matatag) Battalion (IB) and close coordination with local government unit of Remedios T. Romualdez was conducted from May 5 to May 7. The training was held at the Multi-Purpose Evacuation Center, Sitio Dalicanan, Barangay Balang-balang, RTR, Agusan del Norte. The YLS, like the last three-day camp, is aimed at developing the youth to become effective leaders of today, a catalyst of change to promote peace and development in their respective communities, and empowering them to become advocates for peace and enhance and mold their awareness of the important roles of the youth in nation-building. YLS is also part of the long-term effort to end local communist armed conflict in the most vulnerable sectors of society and to protect youth from New People’s Army recruitment. “In the future, the youth will be the leaders in their respective area. To keep them away from bad deeds, it is necessary to educate them. The town of RTR is one of those with the presence of Leftist groups and drugs, so it is necessary to protect the youth," said RTR Mayor Richard Daquipil. Agusan del Norte Gov. Maria Angelica Rosedell M. Amante also said, "Why is the Youth Leadership Summit important? Because you are our tomorrow, not us current leaders, not me. When we are gone, who will replace us? Of course you. We are doing this to guide you so that all the decisions you make will have an impact on your respective futures." Brig. Gen. George Banzon, commanding general of the Army 901st Brigade, said their training is the very foundation of the development and progress in their respective localities. "This is the indication that your perspective is open for the good of your community. Your perspective is open for a good future and tomorrow for each of you,” he said. “All the challenges that we will go through if you all understand each other and are united we can handle it. I wish that our next banner here is not only peace but also happiness and prosperity in the town of RTR," said Banzon in his message during the YLS closing ceremony.
