Recycling program in Zamboanga City yields 4,144 kilos of plastic bags

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Plastic for Rice program here that aimed to recycle non-biodegradable materials yielded a total of 4,144 plastic bags, according to the city government.

(Mayor John Dalipe FB) A total of 2,084 kilos of rice were released by the city government following a ratio of approximately one kilo of rice given for two kilos of plastic presented by the participant. The program, which ran for three weekends, ended on Saturday, April 29. Over 400 residents participated in the program in five pilot barangays – Ayala, Sangali, Guiwan, Tugbungan, and Talon-Talon. Participating barangays also received pet bottles, tin cans, sando bags, juice cartons, food and candy wrappers, shampoo, and laundry soap sachets in an effort to educate residents on the benefits of recycling and solid waste management.
