Man arrested for robbing convenience store in Caloocan
A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly robbing a convenience store on Caybiga St. in Barangay 166, Caloocan City on Sunday, April 30.
The Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) identified the suspect as Patrick Ivan Malala, a resident of the area.
Capt. Rolando Domingo, Llano Police Sub-station commander, said the suspect went to the convenience store at 3 a.m. on Sunday to deposit money to his G-cash account, but the cashier told him that the machine was offline and cannot process cash deposits.
Based on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage,  the suspect walked to the left side of the counter.
When the cashier became occupied with the ice cream machine, the suspect pointed an icepick at the victim and instructed him to open the cash register. He managed to get P9,800 from the drawer and escaped.
Police said the victim did not sustain injuries.
Llano Police Sub-station personnel immediately conducted a follow-up operation after the crews of the convenience store reported the incident.
The suspect was identified through the G-cash number he used when he attempted to deposit money. He was arrested at his house at 6 a.m. on Sunday.
He is now under the custody of CCPS for robbery charges.
