QC LGU reminds resto owners of solo parent discount
The Quezon City local government reminded restaurant owners in the city to give discounts to registered solo parents.
“Itong batas na 20-percent discount every first and last Sunday. Ginawa na namin ang internal rate of return IRR, ibinigay na namin sa Business Permits and Licensing Department (BPLD). Ibinaba na po iyan sa lahat ng business establishments (This law of 20-percent discount every first and last Sunday. We have done the IRR, we have given it to the Business Permits and Licensing Department (BPLD). It has been given to all business establishments),” Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said on Sunday, April 30.
She said that Ordinance No. 2766, Series of 2018, is now fully implemented, which entitles all registered solo parents to a 20 percent discount in restaurants in the city during the first and last Sunday of every month.
Under the ordinance, each solo parent must present a valid Solo Parent ID issued by the Quezon City-Social Services Development Department (QC-SSDD) in order to avail of the 20-percent discount.
She also ordered the Business Permits And Licensing Office (BPLD) to remind business establishments to follow the implementation of the ordinance.
“Ano ang ating magiging tungkulin? Isumbong ang mga establisimyentong hindi tumutupad dito. Saan isusumbong? Sa Helpline 122 (What will be our role? Report establishments that do not comply to this. Where to report? To Helpline 122),” Belmonte added.
For the first offense, violators will receive a written warning from the SSDD or the BPLD, while a fine of P2,000 will be imposed for the second offense and a P5,000 fine and cancellation or revocation of business permit for the third offense.
Belmonte said the city government will continue to support the welfare of solo parents and that her administration has lined up several programs and projects, including the implementation of the "Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act."
The Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act has already been enacted into law but the national government is still in the process of finalizing the guidelines for its full implementation.
She added that registered solo parents can also avail of the various programs such as educational assistance, medical assistance, gadgets for public school students, school supplies, and scholarships for senior high school, technical-vocational, and college.
Meanwhile, under the city’s social welfare assistance program, 3,000 indigent solo parents can receive annual financial assistance of P500 to P6,000 every month.
