A parade of students from various schools in Antipolo City doing a lively street dance will signal the start of the Maytime Festival or the three-month long festivities of Antipoleños, the city government announced.
The street dance will start at 4 p.m. on May 1.
The dancers, wearing colorful native designed costumes, will compete against their fellow street dancers as they dance to the tune of “Tayo Na Sa Antipolo”.
The competition proper and final judging will happen at the Ynares Center following the street dancing presentation according to Mar Bacani of the city government’s tourism office.
Drum and lyre bands, with their respective majorettes will also march in the streets to enjoin residents and visitors to join in the festivities.
During the parade, road closures will be implemented, according to the city government.
For the Maytime Festival, the city government' prepares several activities from May to July.
Also part of the festival is the “Sagayla” on May 13; a grand sagala on May 21; Queen of Antipolo, a beauty pageant on May 26, Flores de Mayo on May 27, and drum and lyre competition on May 28.
During the season, buses of pilgrims arrive in the city everyday to pay homage to the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, enshrined in the main altar of the International Shrine of the Our Lady of Peace Good Voyage.
Native delicacies such as suman, and "kalamay" are sold on sidewalks including roasted cashew nuts (kasoy).
