US pays tribute to Fil-Am World War II vets

The United States joined the Philippines in celebrating the 81st Day of Valor.

Through its embassy in Manila, the US paid tribute to Filipinos and Americans for their heroism in World War II. "This #Kagitingan2023, we join the Philippines in paying tribute to Filipinos and Americans who bravely fought for freedom and peace during World War II," the US Embassy said on its [Twitter page](https://twitter.com/USEmbassyPH/status/1644913151433928705) on Sunday, April 9. "We continue to honor their legacy and remember their sacrifice," it added. The United States established diplomatic relations with the Philippines in 1946. The PH-US relations are based on historical and cultural linkages and a shared commitment to democracy and human rights. According to the State Department, the 1951 US-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty provides a strong foundation for robust post-World War II security partnership. US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson has also sent [well wishes](https://mb.com.ph/2023/4/9/us-canada-envoys-send-easter-messages-to-pinoys) to the country on Easter Sunday, which coincided with the Day of Valor. “Happy #Easter to everyone celebrating in the Philippines, the United States, and around the world! Maligayang Pasko ng Muling Pagkabuhay!,” Carlson wrote.
