Two dead, one rescued in separate drowning incidents in Cagayan Valley rivers
CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela – Two persons died while another was rescued in separate drowning incidents in Cagayan Valley rivers on Black Saturday, April 8.
Police said a 16-year-old student from Barangay Mabuhay, Angadanan, Isabela reportedly drowned and was declared dead at a hospital on Black Saturday afternoon.
The victim and his friends went to the Cagayan River to take a bath.
Police said the victim reportedly jumped at the deep portion of the river and drowned.
The rescue team recovered the victim’s body at around 12:30 p.m. The victim was rushed to the nearest hospital where he died.
A nine-year-old boy, a resident of San Pedro, Bagabag, Vizcaya, drowned at the quarry hole on Magat River, Barangay Baretbet, Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya.
The victim’s body was recovered and immediately subjected to CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) before he was rushed to the nearest hospital where he died.
Meanwhile, a construction worker identified as Joseph Banguilan, 56, and resident of Barangay Calamagui 1st, City of Ilagan, Isabela, was rescued and saved after he drowned on the Cagayan River in Ilagan City.
The victim and his family were having a picnic and drinking session when he suddenly dived into the river’s water and drowned.
Upon learning of the incident, the duty rescuers responded immediately and they recovered the unconscious victim’s body.
Authorities rushed the victim to the nearest hospital where he is now recovering.
