P680k shabu seized in Pasig City buy-bust

Around P680,000 worth of illegal drugs were seized from two individuals in a buy-bust operation in Barangay San Nicolas, Pasig City on Wednesday evening, April 5.  The buy-bust operation was led by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Units (DEUs) of the Pasig City police station (CPS) and Eastern Police District (EPD).  The report submitted to NCRPO Chief Maj. Gen. Edgar Okubo, released on Saturday, April 8, identified the suspects as Armand Cariño, 28, a businessman; and Pearl John Fernandez.  The operatives of the NCRPO, Pasig CPS, and EPD conducted the buy-bust operation and arrested the suspects at 8:30 p.m. at the second floor of the Pasig Mega Parking in Caruncho Avenue, Barangay San Nicolas.  Police recovered 100 grams of suspected shabu, with a market value of P680,000, contained inside a knot-tied transparent plastic bag.  A genuine P1,000 bill, and 199 other fake P1,000 bills used as buy-bust money was also confiscated.  In addition, the report also stated that two women approached the police officer who posed as the buyer of the operation and offered P100,000 in exchange for the release of one of the suspects.  The women, identified as Elvie Cariño, 51, and Jocelyn Cariño, 26, were also arrested while the police were conducting an inventory of the seized evidence.  The evidence and bribe money was brought to the NCRPO, then turned over to the EPD Crime Laboratory.  The suspects were placed in the custody of the Pasig CPS. Appropriate charges will be filed against them at the Pasig Prosecutor’s Office.  Armand Cariño and Fernandez are facing charges for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) of Republic Act No. 9165 or the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. Meanwhile, Elvie and Jocelyn Cariño are facing charges for violation of Article 212 of the Revised Penal Code pertaining to “Corruption of Public Officials.”
