NPA supporter yields in Cagayan

CAMP Marcelo Adduru, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – A New People’s Army supporter surrendered to the police in Lasam, this province, on Black Saturday. The surrender of alias “Rico,” 59, a farmer, was facilitated by the Lasam police station together with the 3rd Mobile Force Platoon and 2nd Cagayan Provincial Mobile Force Company. Rico said he was recruited as a member of the NPA in 1980. He said he was convinced to join because the NPA promised him that they will fight for his rights as a farmer. Rico became a runner and driver, delivering food and other necessities for the NPA two days in a week from Barangay Viga to Sicalao, Lasam, Cagayan and Paco Valley, Apayao. He said his group was responsible for the ambush on government forces in Barangay Calapangan Sur, Lasam, and ransacked an NFA warehouse in Barangay Centro 1, Lasam in 1984. Sacks of rice were carted away and were stored in Sitio Kagising in Barangay Centro 1.
