LPA’s trough, northeasterly surface wind flow affecting parts of PH — PAGASA

Two weather systems are bringing cloudy skies with rains over most of the Philippines, the state weather bureau said on Sunday morning, April 9.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said these two weather systems are the low pressure area (LPA) spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and the northeasterly surface wind flow.

The LPA was last seen 1,285 kilometers east of Mindanao outside PAR. The weather disturbance is not yet directly affecting the archipelago, but its trough or extension is already bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains in Eastern Visayas, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands.

“[Itong LPA ay] posibleng pumasok na ng PAR pagsapit ng gabi. Base sa ating analysis, mababa pa rin ang tiyansa na itong LPA ay maging isang bagyo sa mga susunod na araw (This LPA is likely to enter PAR tonight. Based on our analysis, there is still a low chance that this LPA will become a tropical cyclone in the next few days),” said Estareja in a public weather forecast on Sunday.

“Pagpasok ng PAR, mananatili ito sa Philippine Sea hanggang sa Thursday o Friday at mabagal na tatawid ito sa silangan ng Visayas and Mindanao (Once it enters PAR, it will remain in the Philippine Sea until Thursday or Friday and it will slowly cross eastern Visayas and Mindanao),” Estareja added.

Meanwhile, the northeasterly surface wind flow continues to bring cloudy skies with rains in parts of Luzon, particularly Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, and Central Luzon.

Residents of these areas may expect a “slightly colder” weather with scattered rain showers, said Estareja. They were also warned against possible flash floods and landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.
