Leading clean energy provider First Gen Corporation and its geothermal subsidiary Energy Development Corporation (EDC) earned preeminent recognitions at the 8th Asia Integrated Reporting Awards (AIRA), one of the most prestigious award-giving bodies in the region. The company indicated that First Gen, the energy investment platform of Lopez-led First Philippine Holdings Corp., had been honored with “bronze recognitions” in two categories: Asia’s Best Integrated Report (Integrated Thinking) Award; and Asia’s Best Integrated Report (CEO Message) – and these were conferred during the virtual awarding rites in Singapore last March 30. For EDC, it clinched one gold and two silver awards under three categories -- Asia’s Best Sustainability Report (CEO Letter), Asia’s Best Integrated Report (Value Creation), and Asia’s Best Sustainability Report (Private Company). EDC is touted as the country’s pure renewable energy (RE) company with assets on geothermal, as well as wind and solar energy installations. According to Rajesh Chhabara, founder of AIRA and managing director of CSRWorks, "First Gen and EDC have showcased exemplary leadership in integrated reporting,” adding that “the company's integrated report is a best practice example, highlighting its application of integrated thinking and a multi-capital approach to generate long-term value for its shareholders and stakeholders.” With the new awards bestowed on the Lopez firms, First Gen Vice President Ricky Carandang enthused that “we consider this both a reward for our work and a source of inspiration to sustain excellence in integrated reporting.” As explained, integrated reporting delves with “comprehensive and transparent view of an organization’s governance, performance, strategy, and prospects, enabling providers of capital to make informed decisions and assessments.” The annual AIRA is convened with sustainability consulting firm CSRWorks International taking the lead; and it is carrying this out in collaboration with the Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards (ASRA). Primarily, their goal is “to honor companies whose respective sustainability and integrated reports demonstrate high-quality, value-creation reporting.” It was further noted that “the winning reports are selected based on a rigorous assessment process, where an independent judging panel determines the finalists and winners.” As emphasized, “the judging process not only evaluates the quality of the reports, but it also requires a comprehensive due diligence that takes into account companies' reputations among their stakeholders.” The AIRA organizers similarly highlighted that “investors use integrated reports to assess the organization’s ability to create value in the short, mid, and long term,” hence, that galvanized “the increasing adoption of integrated reporting by companies and market regulators worldwide, backed by investors.”
