3 drown in Batangas on Good Friday, Black Saturday


Three persons drowned in Lian, Nasugbu, and Lemery in Batangas on Good Friday and Black Saturday.

The Batangas Police Provincial Office said the victims were a 17-year-old male student, single, resident of FDR, Block 9, Lot 12, Phase 3, GMA, Cavite; Juanito Tiples, 61, resident of Zone 10, Barangay Sampaloc 4, Dasmariñas City, Cavite, and Rexie Detaonon, 30, single, resident of Barangay Munting Indang, Nasugbu, Batangas.

The student drowned in a resort in Barangay Lumaniag in Lian at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 7, during an outing with family. He was taken to a hospital in Nasugbu where he was declared dead.

Detaonon was swimming on a river at 2 p.m. on April 7 in Barangay Munting Indang when he was carried away by a strong current.

Responders recovered and took him to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Tiples was reportedly under the influence of liquor and repeatedly advised by the Lemery rescue team patrolling the seashore at 2:20 p.m. on April 8 not swim but after an hour, he found floating in the shallow portion of the sea and unconscious.

He was taken to the Batangas Provincial Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Eric Barret.
