RJ Abarrientos and the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus got dragged into a sudden death after suffering an 87-80 drubbing at the hands of the Goyang Carrot Jumpers in Game Four of their best-of-five quarterfinals series in the Korean Basketball League on Saturday, April 8, at the Goyang Gymnasium.
The Mobis Phoebus couldn’t rely on their 30-17 advantage in the opening quarter and found themselves in a 42-all deadlock at the half before completely blowing their 2-1 series lead.
Filipino import RJ Abarrientos tallied 10 points in a decent 4-of-7 shooting and dished out five assists in the losing effort.
With the series now tied at 2-2, Abarrientos’ semifinals matchup with fellow Filipino import Rhenz Abando of the Anyang KGC is in peril.

Anyang earned a semifinals berth after finishing the regular season as the top seed. Seo Myeong-jin and Gage Prim registered 18 and 16 points, respectively, while Justin Knox had 10 of his own. Ulsan kept itself beside Goyang at the scoreboard after Abarrientos’ jumper at the 3:14 mark of the third quarter. However, Goyang went on a fiery 10-2 run to create a decent separation going into the fourth quarter, 65-57. Before the Mobis Phoebus could even begin to trim the eight-point deficit in the final quarter, Lee Jung-hyun erupted with nine straight points to stretch the Carrot Jumpers’ lead by double digits, 74-59. With over a minute left in the contest, Ulsan responded a little too late and managed to cut the gap by single digit but Goyang held on to the series-tying win. Dedric Lawson took matters into his own hands and dropped a double-double performance of 35 points and 17 rebounds. Lee, for his part, finished with 15 points, five assists and three rebounds. In the other quarterfinals affair, defending champion Seoul SK Knights swept the best-of-five series against the KCC Egis to face the second-seeded Changwon LG Sakers in the semifinals. The schedule of the Game Five winner-take-all between Ulsan and Goyang is yet to be determined.
