QC bags several local, international awards for innovative practices

Quezon City won several local and international awards in March for its innovative programs, the local government announced on Saturday, April 8. "It was a week of recognition for the  Quezon City government as it received various international and local awards for its efficient service to its constituents through smart and innovative solutions and practices," the local government said. It said the city's Facebook page, managed by the QC Public Affairs and Information Services Department (PAISD), bagged the Most Innovative Facebook Page in the Stevie Awards Asia-Pacific 2023. The recognition was announced on March 31 on the [Stevie Awards](https://stevieawards.com/)' official website. It was the first international award received by PAISD. The winners will be formally announced in a virtual ceremony on June 27. They were evaluated by more than 150 professionals around the world. The city government said the Stevie Awards are considered the world's premier business citation.  “Being recognized by an international award-giving body is a tremendous honor for our city. This is a part of our aim to provide timely and valuable information to our constituents through social media. This award is a testament to the quality of work that we provide our QCitizens,” QC Mayor Joy Belmonte said. Last March 31, the city government accepted from the International Climate Development Institute (ICDI) the "Best Practice of Innovative Technology" award for the city's recyclable waste trading program "Trash to Cashback." Belmonte said the Trash to Cashback program has collected over 124,000 kilograms of recyclable wastes since its launch in 2021. She said that each recyclable waste surrendered to them by residents can be converted into an "environmental point," which can be loaded into the QC cards. The environmental points can be used in buying groceries or paying utility bills. The city also bagged other four awards and citations during the Digital Governance Awards (DGA) of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) at the National Museum in Manila on March 30. Meanwhile, the Urban Farmers Federation, a group of city farmer leaders under the Grow QC program, was also recognized during the Vietnam International Achiever Awards. It was named Asia's Most Innovative Urban Gardening of the New Millennium for its commitment to ensuring food security in the city. "As we strive to becoming a smart city, the city ensures that every program and policy that we craft is sustainable, resilient, and environment-friendly. At the same time, we also put in mind that everything we do should always improve the lives of our residents by providing them efficient services that are responsive to their needs," Belmonte added.
