The Eastern Police District (EPD) organized a bike ride to help police officers patrol the places of Holy Week activities in the cities within the eastern part of Metro Manila.
The bike ride was facilitated by Col. Reynan Patam, chief of the District Community Affairs and Development Division (DCADD); and Maj. Darwin Agmaliw, chief of the District Human Rights Affairs Office (DHRAO).
Around 300 officers and personnel from the Pasig, Marikina, Mandaluyong, and San Juan City (PAMAMARISAN) police stations, EPD Headquarters, District Mobile Force Battalion (DMFB), and other bikers’ clubs and advocacy support groups joined the activity on Holy Saturday, April 8.
Last Maundy Thursday, April 6, 186 bikers composed of 69 from the police and 117 from advocacy groups participated in the event.

The bike ride was launched with the theme, “Padyak para sa Pananampalataya sa Panginoon at Adbokasya para sa Karapatang Pantao.” According to the Pasig police, the “Bisikleta Iglesia” is a “modified ‘Visita Iglesia’” wherein the PAMAMARISAN police stations visited at least seven churches within their areas of responsibility in order to intensify police presence throughout the Holy Week. They assessed the peace and order situations at various churches, other places of worship, and venues conducting Holy Week activities. Aside from their duties, the officers were also given the opportunity to practice their devotion at the holy places they visited such as conducting the Stations of the Cross.

The bike ride started at 4:30 a.m. at the EPD Multi-Purpose Hall on Caruncho Avenue in Barangay Malinao, Pasig City. Prior to the event, participants were served with hot porridge to prepare them for the long ride. A brief lecture on human rights and a safety briefing was given, as well as the awarding of certificates of recognition to the bikers clubs and advocacy groups. Since the beginning of the Holy Week, the EPD activated its security operations to prepare for the Lenten season as part of the Philippine National Police (PNP)’s “Ligtas SumVac” (Summer Vacation) 2023” program. EPD District Director Wilson Asueta and the chiefs of police of the PAMAMARISAN stations conducted inspections and deployed units for police assistance in observance of the Holy Week. The Manila Police District (MPD) also held a similar bike ride activity on Sabado de Gloria.
