PCG: 77K passengers catch sea trips on Good Friday

A total of 77,078 passengers trooped to various sea ports nationwide on Good Friday, April 7, to catch last-minute trips back to their home provinces for the Holy Week break. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said that 43,776 outbound passengers and 33,302 inbound passengers were monitored in all ports around the country from 6 a.m. to 12 noon. Authorities earlier stated that the number of passengers traveling on Good Friday might decrease as some shipping lines announced the suspension of their operations. A total of 384 vessels and 1,415 motorbancas were also inspected by 2,710 frontline personnel in 15 PCG districts nationwide. In Davao City, PCG personnel assisted a pregnant woman who gave birth in front of the headquarters of the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao around 10 p.m. on Maundy Thursday, April 6. The identity of the woman was not immediately known. *(Courtesy of Philippine Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao)* The pregnant woman was with her partner when they asked for help from on duty coast guard personnel outside the headquarters to bring them to the hospital. “Ngunit biglang nakaranas ng labor pains ang naturang babae hanggang sa nanganak ito sa harap ng headquarters (But the woman suddenly experienced labor pains until she gave birth in front of the headquarters),” the PCG said. The woman was eventually brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center onboard a coast guard ambulance where they were given further medical assistance.
