ILOILO CITY – “Pagtaltal,” the reenactment of the crucifixion of Jesus in the popular pilgrimage site known as Bala-an Bukid (Holy Mountain) in Jordan town in the island-province of Guimaras, resumed after a three-year halt due to the pandemic on Good Friday.

Hundreds of devotees and visitors witnessed the event that started at the Smallest Plaza at noontime and slowly made its way uphill to Bala-an Bukid. One-hundred thirty-one residents participated in the reenactment. Also held on Good Friday in Guimaras were the Worship Festival in Buenavista where 10 religious groups gathered for various activities, including its own reenactment of the passion and death of Jesus.
Last year, the provincial government of Guimaras and the local government of Jordan only opened the pilgrimage site to residents of the island-province which had one of the strictest Covid-19 protocols in the country at that time.
