ILOILO CITY – The local government of Malay, Aklan reminded tourists at world-famous Boracay Island that loud music and rowdy parties are not allowed on Good Friday.

This yearly ban is implemented by the local government to respect the day Christians commemorate the passion and death of Christ. In a memorandum to the Business Permits and Licensing Office, Vice Mayor Niño Carlos Cawaling stated the ban is from 6 a.m. on Good Friday to 6 a.m. on Black Saturday. Cawaling added in the order that no special permits have been issued to hold parties. Bars and resorts on the island holding parties and playing loud music especially on Friday night will be penalized. This ban has been in effect since 2009 when the Malay municipal council passed a resolution. In a separate announcement, the Malay Tourism Office reminded devotees that they visit the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish Church in Barangay Balabag to attend Holy Week rites.
