The Cebu Port Authority (CPA) said that it recorded a total of 326,697 inbound and outbound passengers from April 2 to 6. The biggest volume of passengers was recorded on April 4 where the CPA tallied 46,480 outbound passengers and 40,407 inbound passengers. The CPA expected a high volume of passengers due to the observance of the Holy Week and the long weekend. All the 16 ports in Cebu that are under the CPA are on heightened alert from April 2 to 10 as part of the “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2023.” With the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, the CPA anticipated that there will be more travelers in this year’s Holy Week compared to last year. From April 2 to 10 last year, the CPA recorded 345,445 passengers who traveled to and from Cebu. The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) has increased police visibility in major terminals and churches. Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, chief of PRO-7, on Maundy Thursday led the deployment of policemen for the “Bisikleta Iglesia.” Under Bisikleta Iglesia, bicycle-riding policemen will patrol key areas to ensure the safety of the public in churches and other public places. “This is part of our security precautions for the Holy Week. We shall put our police on the ground, deploy them in strategic areas of convergence to make sure that we have a police force which can be seen, heard, and felt in Central Visayas,” said Aberin.
