Parents in Bacolod urged to immunize children vs polio, measles, rubella
BACOLOD CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) is eyeing to immunize more than 100,000 children here against polio, measles, and rubella.
The CHO and the Department of Health (DOH) have encouraged the people to prioritize the immunization of their children from vaccine preventable diseases through the nationwide Measles-Rubella-btvalent Oral Poliomyelitis Vaccine (MR-bOPY) Supplemental Immunization Activity (SIA) from May 1 to 31.
Jamaica Gail Isidto, Sanitation Inspector IV and Health Education and Promotion Officer (HEPO)-CHO, said they are eyeing to immunize 58,394 children for polio and 50,081 children for MR in 61 barangays here.
Isidto said the target is 95 percent of all children aged zero to 59 months for polio and nine to 59 months for measles and rubella.
Dubbed “Chikiting Ligtas sa dagdag bakuna kontra Polio, Rubella, at Tigdas,” the activity is in cooperation with Healthy Pilipinas, United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Isidto said the activity aims to eliminate these vaccine preventable diseases and prevent an outbreak.
The CHO has a month-long advocacy or campaign through “recorida,” radio, and social media platforms, to achieve this target.
